Clarissa Irene Sak, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2016, in Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. Clarissa was born on October 17, 1926 in the German city of Chemnitz in Saxony. She was the loving wife of CSM Alfred John Sak, who preceded her in death on January 21, 1979. Clarissa is survived by one son, Stephen Sak of Mechanicsburg and his wife Mary, and her granddaughter Sophia E. Sak. Having survived the bombing of Dresden in 1945, Clarissa escaped East Germany after the war and married "Fred" Sak. They settled in Willingboro, New Jersey in 1969. Clarissa eventually moved into independent living at Country Meadows in 2012 to be closer to her son and his family. Her life was a full and joyful one. A fiercely independent, smart and witty woman, she loved watching Philadelphia Flyers hockey, especially the fights. She enjoyed reading historical non-fiction, listening to Frank Sinatra and dining out. She loved caviar, looking at clouds and the central Pennsylvania landscape, and most of all her granddaughter Sophia. Always well dressed, she never failed to bring a smile to the faces of everyone around her. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. A viewing will be held on Monday April 4th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Neill Funeral home at 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill. This will be followed by a service led by Fr. Timothy Hojnicki at 7:00 PM. Burial will be on Tuesday April 5th at 12:30 PM at Beverly National Cemetery, 916 Bridgeboro Road, Beverly, NJ 08010 beside her beloved husband Alfred John Sak. Memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Association.
