Dorothy “Dottie” Morris, born November, 7, 1931, in Harrisburg, passed over to the other side Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Her final hours were spent with her loving husband Leonard “Bud” Morris, sons Lennie and Doug, her “angel,” niece, and “Lucky Day” Marilyn, son in spirit Denny McBride, nephew Tony Wolfe and niece in spirit Alise.
Songs she sang with family members for many years were shared with her during her final day. Her favorite song was Woody Guthrie’s “My Peace.” A question she often asked was “When will there be peace?” The spirit of the Blessed Mother and the teachings of Jesus were with her. As much as anything she hoped for peace in this all too often violent world.
Over the past five years when her life was often painful and difficult, it struck us that she never complained and she spent much time praying for the well-being of others. Given her immobility and much weakened state of being, that was her way of trying to help.
A friend Martin was on Dottie’s very lengthy prayer list. When we shared with him that a few less prayers would be heading his way, he disagreed: "No, there now will be more prayers from Dorothy." Let us hope he is correct and all of us will benefit from more good spirit!
Marty asked us what words come to mind to describe “Dorothy” and "kindness" "generosity" "caring" “smiling” and "loving" came to mind.
We are happy and blessed that we were able to spend these last few years helping her, and her helping and blessing us in ways indescribable.
She would be happy to see people working to make this world a more peaceful and just place and to hear people singing Woody’s song:
“My peace, my peace, is all I’ve got, all I’ve ever known,
My peace is worth a thousand times more, than anything I own;
I pass my peace around and ‘round, ‘cross hands of every hue;
My peace, my peace, is all I’ve got, that I can give to you.”
A memorial gathering will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, followed by a Church ceremony at 11:00 a.m.
