Dorothy Louise Shambaugh

July 7, 1928August 29, 2019

Dorothy (Dot) L. Shambaugh, 91, of Harrisburg, passed away August 29, 2019 at Country Meadows of Mechanicsburg. She was born July 7, 1928 in Harrisburg, daughter of the late Russel and Christine Balsley. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a supervisor with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Property and Supplies. Dorothy was a graduate of Lower Paxton High School, recognized as Best Female Athlete of her class, holding the record high, 40 points scored in one game on the girls basketball team.

She enjoyed many other activities, a swimming instructor, bowling in a bowling league for many years. One of her biggest passions was sunbathing and Beach going, Saint Croix was one of her favorite places. Later in life, she was a member of the Harrisburg Garden club loved to play mah-jongg and a member of the Lower Paxton senior friendship club.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Balsley and sister, Patricia Balsley. She is survived by her daughter Terrie L. Prayer and her husband, Frederick of Camp Hill, sons: Duane A. Shambaugh, his wife, Patricia of Halifax, J Craig Shambaugh of Camp Hill. Five grandchildren: Frederick Richard Prayer and his wife Susan, Timi Pieretti and her husband Christopher, Ravane Cristino and her husband Patrick, Jessica Prayer, Kaitlyn Chajkowski, along with four great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, many cherished friends and neighbors and Bootsie and Dory her feline companions.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM,Thursday September 12, 2019, at Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill. Friendship and greetings at 10 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to,The Harrisburg Humane Society or Kindred Hospice of Camp Hill
