Born on November 23, 1923 in London, England, he was the son of Captain T. Benjamin and Phyllis (Abbott) Marsh. He married his first wife, Claire Grisman in 1956. She died in 2004, a day short of their 50th anniversary. In 2005, he married Nan Spiers, whom he had met in Bangkok, Thailand in 1965.
During WW II, Heywood served 4 ½ years in the Royal Engineers of the British Army. Two of those years were in India and Burma. He was released with the rank of Captain.
After finishing his training as a municipal engineer, he emigrated to the U.S. and spent many years working for consulting engineering firms in CA and PA. His work included assignments in: France, Switzerland, Germany, Burma, Thailand, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Korea, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines.
As a registered PE, Heywood served as president of the Harrisburg Chapter of the PA Society of Professional Engineers, and president of the PA Engineering Foundation. He was a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
For 24 years, he owned Larry Lee Stamps in Wormleysburg, PA, and was also a member of the Harrisburg Bridge Club. He served on the Camp Hill Zoning Board, and was a member and elder of the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nan Spires Marsh; his son, Robin G.G. Marsh and wife, Julie of; two grandchildren, Lynsey and Colin; a step-granddaughter Brooke Hudson Marsh, and two great grandchildren Matilda and Mylo.
