

Gerald J Hartman, 91, of Camp Hill, loving husband, devoted father and great friend died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday October 3rd. Gerry was known for his love of life and positive, optimistic outlook. His faith served as a foundation for his everyday living. He enjoyed golf, family vacations and taking cruises with his wife.
A native of Allentown, Valedictorian of Allentown Center Catholic, he attended Penn State and Muhlenberg Colleges until he enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942. As a Second Lieutenant, he flew 33 combat missions in Italy as a B17 Pilot. His many decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
Returning to civilian life, he joined the former Bell Telephone Company and served in various PA locations, including a 2 year assignment with AT&T in New York and introduced “800” service in the early 60s. He retired in 1987 after 41 years of service.
A member of Good Shepard Church, he was active as a volunteer in PA Association of the Blind, Holy Spirit Hospital, and the Telephone Pioneers. He was also active in Central PA Homemakers-Home Health Aid, K of C, Elks, West Shore Country Club and the commissioned Officers Club at the Naval Support Depot.
He will be missed by Solita, his loving wife of 68 years, daughters Sister Sharon of Williamsport, PA, Joan Neijstrom of Syracuse, son Gary and wife Chris of Colorado, brother Don of Hellertown, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
In celebration of his life a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Church, Camp Hill, PA on Monday, October 8, 2012, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Church or Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
