
She was born in Quakertown, daughter of the late William and Helen (Roth) Gately. and lived in Mahanoy City with extensive visits to her aunts and uncles in Bucks County. In 1944 she took the train to State College. In 1948 she became a cum laude graduate of the Pennsylvania State College, now the Pennsylvania State University, with a B.S. in Medical Technology.
After graduation, Jane was employed by the US Army at the Quartermaster Depot in Philadelphia as a Research Chemist. In 1952 She resigned her position to become a homemaker and mother.
Jane was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Camp Hill, several local historical societies, the NJ Audubon Society, the Cape May Bird Observatory, and the DAR. Jane enjoyed, history, genealogy, gardening and travel. She especially enjoyed her visits to “The Shore”. Once bitten by the “birding bug”, Jane took advantage of the guided walks and workshops offered by the Cape May Bird Observatory to expand her skills and knowledge.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert S. Foster.
She is survived by her children: Patricia (Foster) Sosinski and Henry Sosinski of Columbia, MD; Mark Robert Foster of Mechanicsburg, PA; her four grandchildren: Laurence Lee Foster, Ryan Russell Foster, Ashley Anna Foster, and Owen Marshall Foster; plus a great-grandson, Rhys Riven Foster.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Neill Funeral Home 3401 Market St. Camp Hill, with viewing one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
While Jane loved flowers, those wishing to recognize her love of birding may elect to make a Memorial Contribution through a donation to the Cape May Bird Observatory. Checks should be made payable to N.J. Audubon and sent to CMBO, 600 Route 47, Cape May Court House, 08210 .
