

Joseph (Joe) was the son of the late Albert J. and Bertha E. (Nickol) Scherrer, born in Altoona, PA on August 7, 1928. After completing his Altoona public school education, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Japan, Korea and the continental U.S.
Upon discharge from the Army, Joe entered classes at the Altoona Center of State College, graduating from the Pennsylvania State College with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed by Modjeski and Masters, Consulting Engineers and began his career in the Harrisburg office. His interest in bridge design, construction, inspection and repairs soon led to assignments in Philadelphia, New Orleans, Ogdensburg, NY, Wilmington, DE, and Newburgh, NY. Later assignments were done under direct control of the main office.
Mr. Scherrer retired in 1993, 41 years after joining the firm. He retired as a Sr. Vice President and Treasurer.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Lisa Ann Dugan, husband Timothy, of Atlanta, GA; 2 sons, J. Andrew Scherrer, wife, Lynn, of Ham Lake, MN, and Brian J. Scherrer, wife, JoAnn, of Enola; 6 grandchildren, Kyle Dugan, Ethan Dugan, Evan Scherrer, Jason Scherrer, Anthony Scherrer and Kristina Scherrer; and his sister, Frances Scherrer, of Mechanicsburg.
A viewing will be held 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market St., Camp Hill, Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday, May 3, 2012 in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill. Graveside Service will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Altoona at 1:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Building Fund, or to a charity of your choice.
