Duncannon – On July 15th, 2026, Karen completed her earthly journey and went home to be with our Lord. In Ralph Waldo Emerson’s words, “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to leave the world a better place; to know one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” She was a remarkable woman and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Karen was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Friend, and truly beautiful human being. She was born February 10,1955 in Altoona to Earl and Delores McManamy. She attended Altoona High School where she met the love of her life Michael Conroy in 1973. They were married July 31,1976, while being just short of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary when she passed away.
She was a beautician for over 35 years in the Duncannon area and owned and operated Karen’s Beauty Salon. Still today, she is fondly remembered by some of her customers. Karen was very devoted to her two children, Heather and Zachary. She ensured their home was filled with love, encouragement and support of their dreams. Over the past 17 years, Karen was dedicated to her 4 beautiful granddaughters – Leah and Alayna Conroy, Peyton and Vivian Hower. Karen never missed sporting events for the girls. She was one of the most active parents in the booster clubs. She was always there for her girls and will, especially, be missed by them. They will forever remember their dear Nan.
Karen was an avid lover of the outdoors and her farm. She raised all kinds of gardens with beautiful flowers, vegetables, trees and had a green thumb for any living plant she touched. You could always find her out on a lawn mower or “Wally” (her UTV) with a dog or two riding with her as she tended to the farm. Karen was a superior seamstress and lover of crafts making all sorts of creative items. In recent years, she and Michael enjoyed camping and riding a UTV in Potter County where she connected with nature and found peace.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Delores McManamy.
She is survived by Michael, her husband of 50 years, her children Heather Hower and Zachary Conroy, her daughter in law Melissa Conroy, and her four beautiful granddaughters. Also surviving her are her sweet four-legged friends, Otis, Leo, and Henry. A family gathering to celebrate Karen’s life will be held later in 2026.
