La'Verne Arden Miller

Vern was born on December 30, 1970, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Arlene Faye Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Gina, and their son, Lukas. He was preceded in death by his eldest sister, Linda Miller.

In addition to his wife and son, Vern is survived by his sister, Dana Heckard, and her husband, Harrison; his brother, Scott Miller, and his wife, Tina; his brother, Michael Miller, and his wife, Shirley; his sister-in-law, Diana Linsey, and her husband, Jason; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Santo and Fran Paese; as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Vern proudly served the residents of Washington, D.C., as a police officer in the Sixth District for 14 years before being medically retired. Prior to joining the Metropolitan Police Department, he served in the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division during the Clinton administration. His years of service reflected his dedication to protecting and serving others.

For the last six years of his life, Vern fought a courageous battle against Huntington’s disease. Although the disease gradually took away parts of him that his family held so dear, it never took away his sense of humor, which remained with him throughout his journey.

Before Huntington’s disease took away his mobility, Vern could often be found in the backyard manning the grill at family picnics or taking his son to the shooting range. These moments reflected the things he loved most: spending time with his family, making memories, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Vern will be deeply missed by his wife, son, family, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the laughter he shared, the memories he created, and the love he leaves behind.

Services for Vern are being scheduled at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Huntington's Disease Research at Georgetown University.
