Lucille (nee Fox) Altland, 92, died April 19 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle, PA. She was the wife of the late Stuart F. Altland, who died in 1998 in Nokomis FL, where the couple had lived during most of their retirement years. Lucille, known as “Lu” to friends and family, was born in 1920 in Marion PA, one of six children of Galen and Orpha (Statler) Fox. She graduated from Greencastle High School, married Stuart “Stu” Altland in 1941, and lived in Waynesboro, Hanover, Marietta, Mechanicsburg and Carlisle PA, during his years of employment with the United Telephone Company. She was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren and dedicated to service as a volunteer in the Heifer Project and as a regular hospital and nursing home visitor. Lu is survived by her daughter Carol Trevathan of Philadelphia and son Lance Altland of Enola; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, William Fox, of Greencastle, a sister-in-law, Mary Mott, of Waynesboro, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Carlisle First Church of the Brethren, 1340 Forge Road, on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to her church, to the Heifer Project, to the Church of God Home, or to the charity of your choice.
