With deep sorrow, yet with the blessed hope found in our faith in Jesus Christ, we announce the passing of our beloved Luz Delia Rosa Figueroa, who was born on June 1, 1933, in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, to Carlos Rosa and Cándida Figueroa, and entered into the presence of the Lord on June 7, 2026, at the age of 93.
Luz Delia grew up alongside her three siblings and was raised in a home where faith, love, humility, and service to others were valued. Her mother taught her the ways of the Lord from an early age, planting seeds of faith that remained with her throughout her life.
On September 6, 1952, she married Agustín Delbrey in Sabana Llana, Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. Together they built a loving family and were blessed with two children: Víctor Luis Delbrey Rosa, born on June 3, 1953, and Ada Iris Delbrey Rosa, born on October 11, 1954.
For many years, Luz Delia worked at Laboratorio La Milagrosa, where she excelled as a secretary and was known for her dedication, professionalism, and willingness to help others. Many family members and friends fondly remember that she often drew blood samples at home, always providing care and reassurance with kindness and confidence.
Although she was raised in the Christian faith, she made the personal decision to be baptized in 2006 at Iglesia Cristiana Robles de Justicia, where God promised her many years of life. She faithfully attended and served there until 2020, when she moved to Pennsylvania.
In 2021, she began attending John 3:16 Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and in May 2022, she became an official member of the congregation. She remained devoted to God and steadfast in her faith for the remainder of her life.
Luz Delia was a quiet, reserved, and humble woman, yet those who knew her well recognized her remarkable wisdom and vision. She was known for her unmatched sweetness, gentle spirit, patience, and peaceful presence. Her words were few, but always meaningful, and her example spoke louder than anything she could have said.
She loved animals, especially dogs, and showed compassion to all living things. Though simple and humble, she took pride in her appearance. She enjoyed wearing clothes from JCPenney, keeping her hair neatly styled, and her nails beautifully painted. She carried herself with grace, dignity, and elegance while never losing her humility.
She will also be remembered for the delicious meals she lovingly prepared for family and friends, especially her famous rice with pigeon peas (arroz con gandules), wheat flour arepas, and her unforgettable stewed beans, which brought people together around her table and created cherished memories for generations.
Above all, Luz Delia was a woman devoted to God, dedicated to her family, and committed to serving others. Her life was a testimony of faith, love, perseverance, wisdom, and grace.
Many knew her as Doña Lucy. Others called her Delia. To her children, Víctor and Ada, she was lovingly known as "Mother." To her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends, and her beloved church family at John 3:16 Church, she will always be known simply as "Abuela" (Grandma) — a name that reflected the love, respect, comfort, and warmth she brought to everyone around her.
Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the legacy she leaves behind and the assurance that she is now resting in the presence of her Savior.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
