Orpha W. Peck, 98, formerly of Camp Hill, was taken into her Lord & Savior’s arms on November 26, 2020 (Thanksgiving Day) surrounded by her family. She was born on the family farm in Gardners, PA on August 14, 1922 to the late Oscar & Ella Ora Weidner.
Orpha attended Georgetown School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1940. She married her husband, the late James E. Peck, on September 22, 1946. They shared 54 years of marriage together until his passing in 2001. While she held various jobs over the years, her greatest joy was raising her three children. Orpha enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, playing cards, and singing in the church choir at Shiremanstown United Methodist Church where she was a member for over 60 years. Orpha’s favorite times were spent on Maple Avenue hosting meals and spending time with family and friends. Everyone left Orpha’s home with their hearts and stomachs full. Orpha was a shining example of Jesus’ love with her humble, selfless and hospitable spirit.
Orpha is survived by her sister, Norma Nailor of Carlisle, and by her three children: Barbara (Ronald) Souders of Hummelstown, PA; William (Cynthia) Peck of Williamsport, PA with whom she lived the last 15 months of her life; and Janice (James) Beyer of Turnersville, NJ, as well as 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many who called her “grandma” because of her welcoming heart and home! She joins her granddaughter, Jennifer, where they can both now hear and sing hymns together in Heaven!
A visitation will be held on Thursday December 3, 2020 from 10:00-11:00am at Shiremanstown United Methodist Church; 125 E Main St, Shiremanstown, PA 17011. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Goodyear Cemetery; Gardners, PA 17324.
