She was born May 23, 1935 in Tselepako, Peloponnesos, Greece, she was the daughter of the late George and Aggeliki (Trakas) Tambasis; and preceded in death by her husband, Vasilios Kaldes; and 4 brothers, John, Xenofon, Kosta and Vasilios Tambasis.
Surviving is her daughter, Penny Matangos (Chris) who she lived with for the past 20 years; son, George Kaldes (Tina); five grandchildren Elaine Kontos (Fotee), Bobby Matangos (Kaliope), Sophia Kourgelis (Yianis), and Sofia Anna & William Kaldes, eight great-grandchildren; brother, Philip Tambasis (Anna) sister, Anastasia Mitropoulos (Lakis) both of Melbourne, Australia; sister in law Hrisoula Tambasis of Camp Hill and many nieces and nephews.
Sofia, along with her husband, brought her family from Greece to the United States in 1968; she worked as a seamstress for the Junior Dress Shop and later, with her husband, owned and operated Bill’s Restaurant on N Second St. in Harrisburg.
Sofia was a dedicated and faithful parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and a member of the Ladies of Philoptochos and Sts. Joachim and Anna Society (Senior Citizens). Sofia devoted many long hours, from morning until evening, volunteering her time and talents to the annual Greek Festival. She looked forward to helping with the Festival preparations, always with a smile and always striving to do her best.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, August 27, 2021 in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill. Burial will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery. A viewing will be held 10:00 AM Friday until the time of the service at the cathedral.
