With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Catherine Ann “Cathy” Boutilier, born Catherine Ann Scott on October 30, 1959. Catherine passed peacefully on February 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Cathy was born into the Scott family of New Waterford, Nova Scotia, and carried her Cape Breton roots with pride throughout her life. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Joe Scott and Sadie Scott; her mother’s partner, Ludwig (Tully) Kalbhen; and her brothers John Scott, Larry Scott, and Richard Scott.
She is lovingly survived by her sweet baby brother, Darrell Scott, and by her devoted husband, Gary Boutilier. Together they shared 47 years side by side and 41 years of marriage — a partnership rooted in love, loyalty, and unwavering commitment.
Cathy’s greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and loving mother to Chrissie Boutilier (Paul Klugh), Clifford Boutilier (Amanda Masson), and Richard Boutilier. She was a devoted grandmother (Nana) to Jade Lebel (Cody Bourne), Leah Boutilier, and Maisie Boutilier. Stefan Lebel held a special place in her heart and was loved as one of her own, as did her nephew, Shawn Paul Boutilier, who lived with her and her family for a period of time and remained deeply dear to her heart.
Family to Cathy extended far beyond blood. She cherished her many cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and countless friends. To so many, she was a caretaker, protector, and safe place.
Cathy was the life of the party and the first on the dance floor — especially when The Rankin Family came on. She formed lifelong friendships in Cape Breton and many more in Campbell River on Vancouver Island.
Cathy will be remembered for her loyalty, strength, joy for life, and boundless love. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the family she held together.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Campbell River, British Columbia, in March 2026, with the exact date and time to be announced. A second Celebration of Life will also be held in her hometown of New Waterford, Nova Scotia, this summer, with dates and times to be announced.
