August 8, 1920 – June 19, 2015
Ruth passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 19, 2014, after a courageous battle with pneumonia. She was born in London, England on August 8th 1920 and managed to survive the bombing raids of the Second World War. In 1942, while studying in Newbold College in Berkshire, England, she met and married Geoffrey Brown and had two children. She is survived by a son, daughter, grandson and two great-grandchildren. Ruth never stopped loving Geoffrey even though their marriage ended in divorce and he would regularly communicate with her. More than fifty years later, Geoffrey managed to speak to Ruth a few hours before her death.
The final residence of Ruth was New Horizons, in Campbell River, British Columbia where she was well loved and always grateful to those who provided her care in her final years. In 2013, at the age of 93, she received a New Horizons Recognition for her graciousness.
Throughout her life, Ruth cared about the less fortunate. She was always thankful for what she had and would happily share it with those in need. During the 1960’s and 1970’s Ruth regularly volunteered on the soup runs as she eagerly helped those living on the streets of London.
In England, Ruth worked as a nurse. Her lifelong passion was marveling and depicting the magnificence of nature. The uniqueness of her spirit, observation and inner beauty is manifest throughout a book of her nature poems. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the depth of her religious convictions can be seen in her book of religious poems. Both books are available on request.
