February 2, 1950 – February 8, 2026
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Jim Rossmann, who died on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jim was born and raised in the small community of St. Gregor, Saskatchewan, where his roots shaped the hardworking, kind, and steady man so many came to know and admire. After graduating high school, he moved to St. Albert, Alberta, where he met the love of his life, Linda Schreiner, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.
Jim was a proud father to Troy (Susan Poole), Erin (Shawn Veale), and Wade. He was also a deeply dedicated grandfather to James and Jacob Rossmann, and William and Thomas Veale, and nothing brought him more joy than his family. Jim was known as the king of dad jokes long before dad jokes were even a thing. He could make anyone laugh, and he loved striking up conversations with strangers wherever he went.
Jim studied Computer Systems at NAIT, launching a long and meaningful career in Information Technology. He dedicated over 30 years to the healthcare field, including time at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. Jim’s work was important to him, but what truly defined him was his compassion. He was known to go to the short-staffed NICU on his lunch breaks to cuddle babies who needed comfort. That was Jim- kind, thoughtful, and always helping.
After retiring, Jim and Linda moved to Campbell River on Vancouver Island, a dream come true for him. Surrounded by ocean, mountains, and forests, Jim found the perfect place to enjoy nature and hike to his heart’s content. He also poured his creativity into woodturning, producing beautiful pieces that were true works of art and a reflection of his patience and skill.
Jim’s life was full of storytelling, laughter, generosity, and love. He was proud of his family beyond words, and his presence made people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his helpful spirit, his love of the outdoors, his endless stories, and his legendary sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, in hopes that future research will help others.
Jim will be missed forever, but his love, laughter, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
