Gaëtan Cormier & Rose-Marie Charest

Décédés accidentellement sur l’autoroute 11 à Dalhousie Junction (N.-B.), dimanche le 8 février 2026, M. Gaëtan Cormier à l’âge de 62 ans et son épouse; Mme Rose-Marie Charest à l’âge de 64 ans d’Atholville (N.-B.).

M. Cormier est né à Campbellton, le 8 mars 1963. Il était le fils de feu Guy Cormier et de Pauline (Godbout) Cormier.

Mme Charest est née à Campbellton, le 6 octobre 1961. Elle était la fille de feu André Charest et de feu Rita (Pitre) Charest.

Gaëtan a fait carrière à Énergie NB de 1987 jusqu’à sa retraite en septembre 2022, travaillant à Dalhousie, Point Lepreau et Belledune. Très impliqué dans sa communauté, il a été pompier volontaire au Village d’Atholville pendant 15 ans. Il a occupé divers postes au sein du Comité du tourisme, du Carnaval d’hiver d’Atholville et du Comité du Petit Bois Sec d’Atholville. Il a également été bénévole pour le Club Richelieu et a organisé des collectes de fonds pour l’Hôpital Régional de Campbellton. Avant son élection au conseil municipal de la Communauté Régionale de Campbellton en novembre 2022, il a été conseiller municipal de l’ancien Village d’Atholville de 2012 à 2022.

Rose-Marie a fait carrière à l’Hôpital Régional de Campbellton en tant qu’infirmière, puis en phlébotomie, où elle a travaillé jusqu’à sa retraite. Aussi très impliquée dans sa communauté, elle a été présidente du Club de l’âge d’or et a également participé activement au Carnaval d’hiver d’Atholville pendant de nombreuses années.

Gaëtan et Rose-Marie laissent dans le deuil leurs filles, Prudence et Marie-Lyne (Charles, Jasmine, Liliahna et Naveah), la mère de Gaëtan, Pauline Cormier, leurs frères et sœurs, conjoint et conjointe, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.

Gaëtan était précédé dans la mort par son père, Guy Cormier.

Rose-Marie était prédécédée dans la mort par ses parents, André Charest et Rita (Pitre) Charest, ainsi que par ses frères : Bertrand, Gordon, Paul, Camille, Robert, René, Marcel, Lucien, Jacques, Jean-Denis, Jean-Marie, Gaëtan, Armand et Roger.

Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Notre-Dame-des-Neiges le vendredi 20 février 2026 à 15 h.

La famille accueillera parents et amis au Salon funéraire Savoie, 47, rue Alexander, à Campbellton, le jeudi 19 février 2026 de 14 h à 16 h et de 19 h à 21 h, ainsi que le vendredi 20 février 2026 de 13 h jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles.

Pour ceux et celles qui le désirent, un don peut être fait à la Société canadienne du cancer, en leur mémoire.

Accidentally deceased on Highway 11 in Dalhousie Junction, NB, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Mr. Gaëtan Cormier at the age of 62, and his wife, Mrs. Rose-Marie Charest at the age of 64, both of Atholville, NB.

Mr. Cormier was born in Campbellton on March 8, 1963. He was the son of the late Guy Cormier and Pauline (Godbout) Cormier.

Mrs. Charest was born in Campbellton on October 6, 1961. She was the daughter of the late André Charest and the late Rita (Pitre) Charest.

Gaëtan worked for NB Power from 1987 until his retirement in September 2022, working in Dalhousie, Point Lepreau, and Belledune. Very involved in his community, he served as a volunteer firefighter in the Village of Atholville for 15 years. He held various roles within the Tourism Committee, the Atholville Winter Carnival, and the Petit Bois Sec Committee in Atholville. He also volunteered with the Richelieu Club and organized fundraising efforts for the Campbellton Regional Hospital. Before being elected to the Campbellton Regional Community council in November 2022, he served as a municipal councillor for the former Village of Atholville from 2012 to 2022.

Rose-Marie worked at the Campbellton Regional Hospital as a nurse and later in phlebotomy, where she worked until her retirement. Also very involved in her community, she served as president of the Golden Age Club and actively participated in the Atholville Winter Carnival for many years.

Gaëtan and Rose-Marie are survived by their daughters, Prudence and Marie-Lyne (Charles, Jasmine, Liliahna, and Naveah), Gaëtan’s mother, Pauline Cormier, their brothers and sisters, spouses and partners, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gaëtan was predeceased by his father, Guy Cormier.

Rose-Marie was predeceased by her parents, André Charest and Rita (Pitre) Charest, as well as her brothers: Bertrand, Gordon, Paul, Camille, Robert, René, Marcel, Lucien, Jacques, Jean-Denis, Jean-Marie, Gaëtan, Armand, and Roger.

Funeral services will be held at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Church on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.

Family and friends may pay their respects at Savoie Funeral Home, 47 Alexander Street, Campbellton, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until departure for the funeral.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in their memory.
