

Evelyn Bernice Burmester, 94 of West Hills, California, died September 21, 2020 at the Queen Comfort Care Center. A private family graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 5, at Oakwood Memorial Park and Cemetery.
Evelyn was born on August 4, 1926 in Alton, Illinois. The daughter of Willie Mae Sanders and Edward Thomas Ford, she was raised by her mother and step-father, Jiles L. Reeder. Evelyn graduated from Alton Senior High School, Alton Illinois in 1945.
Evelyn married the boy next door, Morris H. Burmester, Sr on Saturday, August 9. 1947. They built her dream home (a yellow brick ranch) in Godfrey, Illinois and in 1960 they left the winters behind for warmth in Canoga Park,California.
Evelyn worked at the Owen-Illinois Glass Company in Alton, Illinois until their move to California. She worked for the Big A Department Store - Shoe Department in Canoga Park and upon her husband's death she assumed the position of Treasurer and Office Manager of the Canoga Postal Credit Union until she retired at the age of 82.
Evelyn was a avid reader, enjoyed card games and bunco, bowling, square dancing, learning all the dances of the fifties and sixties and teaching them to her children, traveling the world with
her friends and baseball. She often remarked that the saddest time of the year is the six-seven month lapse when baseball season ends and begins.
Evelyn is survived by her two children, son, Morris (Anna) Burmester Jr., West Hills, California and daughter, Penny Skjerseth, Bismarck, North Dakota. Five grandchildren: Julie (Diane) Burmester, Las Vegas, NV; Stephanie (Robbie) Edwards, Plaza, North Dakota; Brent (Christina) Skjerseth, Bismarck, North Dakota; Robin (John) Getzinger, Agoura Hills, California; Bryan (Laura) Iverson, Big Bear, California. Eleven Great-Grandchildren: Dylan Rynestad, Minot, ND; Jersey Rynestad, Burlington, ND; Journey Edwards, Plaza, ND; Maria and Brady Skjerseth, Bismarck, ND; John (Keren), Mark and Nicolette Getzinger, Agoura Hills, CA; Bryk, Quinn and Lily Iverson, Big Bear, California. Two Great Great-Granddaughters: Juiliette and Gianna Getzinger.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae and her step-father, Jiles; her husband, Morris Sr.; her sister, Treva Dreith; her Aunt and Uncle, Anna and Melvin Lomas; three brother-in-laws and wives: Herbert, Edwin (Emma), Alvin (Edith); sister-in-law, Elsina (Gene Colbert and Carl Huntsman); nephews: Larry and Randy Colbert; niece: Deborah Dreith Parham. Plus many other cousins, aunts and uncles.
