Gail was born on December 6, 1967 to Bill and Jane Twomey in New York, their fourth child and third daughter. They moved to California when Gail was 6, where she began St. Bernadines, and discovered her love for horses. Her dad bought her a horse, Sunny Pony, who she loved and rode everywhere, including to the Taco Bell on Platt. She has said the roads were still dirt when she’d ride Sunny Pony to what was to become one of her favorite fast food establishments of all time (bean and cheese burrito with extra sour cream and red sauce on the side, please!).
After graduating from Louisville in 1986, Gail went on to study at Loyola Marymount University. She married Terry Stobie in 1990, and they welcomed their first daughter, Jessica, in 1991. Soon came Nick in 1993, Caiti in 1997, and Jonny in 2000. The gang was complete. Gail spent those years being the best and most active mother - room mom at St. Mel’s, sports, parties, amusement parks, movies, concerts, the beach, vacations, play dates, museums, arts and crafts… every fun thing she could, she did with her children.
Her children grew up and Gail discovered her next life love: travel. She went far and wide, to places and had experiences many can only dream of. She traveled all over India, South East Asia, and the world. To Rishikesh. To Goa. To Ireland. To Bali. To Singapore. She always found her way back home for special moments though, like Jonny’s graduation from UCSB. She was fearless; she arrived in India the day before they locked the country down for Covid and spent the next year doing yoga and making friends in the Himalayas while the rest of us were hoarding toilet paper. She traveled, she tried new things, met many interesting people and learned everything she could. She did yoga retreats. A 7 day silence retreat with monks. She met the Dalai Lama. She paraglided over Dharmsala, India! She ran the Indian flag at a ceremony at the border of Pakistan! She was so bold and so brave. She lived the most incredible life.
Gail was kind, welcoming, empathetic, genuine, warm, spontaneous, energetic, brave, courageous, strong, lighthearted, funny, silly, a joy to be around, and beloved by everyone she met. She was a truly special human.
Gail is survived by her four children - Jessica, Nick, Caiti, and Jonny - who love her immensely, and will miss her more than words can express.
