Lila May Cawelti

Lila May Cawelti was born May 14, 1929, in Calabasas, California, to Frank & Anna Marie Cooper. Lila May’s family was deeply rooted in Calabasas where her grandparents, the Kramers, owned the Calabasas Grocery Store. The family also owned a ranch in the Liberty Canyon area where her love of horses and animals began.

Lila May attended school at the Calabasas School House where she excelled. She attended high school at Canoga Park High School, class of 1947.

Soon after graduation, she met and married her lifetime sweetheart Wallace Cawelti when he returned from WWll. Wallace and Lila had two sons, Wallace Evan Cawelti, Jr. (deceased) and Craig Cary Cawelti. Wallace and Lila owned and operated several auto repair companies for over 60 years in the San Fernando Valley. Lila’s favorite pastime was frequent trips with Wallace and her family to their second home in Hawaii. In 1983, Wallace and Lila welcomed their only grandchild, Ciji Anna Cawelti (Morgan). Lila was a lifetime caregiver who cared for older generations of family as well as her granddaughter. She continued caring for family by helping Ciji and her husband Christopher raise their three children (Carson Cameron Cawelti Morgan, Cooper Cary Cawelti Morgan and Kensington Kelley Cawelti Morgan) well into her 90s.

On October 30, 2025, Lila passed away in West Hills surrounded by her family. Lila is survived by her son Craig (Siena Cawelti), adopted son (Charles Falcone), adopted daughter (Cheri Falcone), granddaughter Ciji Anna Cawelti Morgan (Christopher Morgan), grandson Edward (TJ) Krogh, two great-grandsons Carson and Cooper and great-granddaughter Kensington Kelley.

The visitation will be Thursday, November 13th, 2025, 3:00 p.m. to 7:09 p.m. at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Praiswater Mortuary 6909 Canoga Ave. Canoga Park, CA 91303.

The funeral service will be Friday November 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, 22601 Lassen Street, Chatsworth. Immediately following the funeral, A Celebration of Life will be held at Sagebrush Cantina, 23527 Calabasas Road, Calabasas
