Fond memories living next to Marge on Candy Cane Lane in Woodland Hills.  It was a tight neighborhood where we all looked out for each other and had fun together.  Marge was always a positive person and we would see each other every day over the fence.  When we move to Pismo Beach we had a hard time adjusting to a new neighborhood and new friends as all the folks on Lubao were so friendly and warm.  We mis the good times.

Hi Mom, We all continue to miss you very much. So many times in this last year I have caught myself wanting to pick up the phone to tell you some news about work or something that happened; thinking it would be something  you would be interested in knowing. Instead I continue to talk to you in  prayer.  

Can't believe you left us two years ago today. I love you and will see you soon.....but hopefully not too soon. Still have things to do on this side of the dirt. Give Mary and your siblings our love.  Love, Lou xox

I knew Marge from our days at WHUMC, and she was one of my favorite people. She was warm and gracious, with a keen sense of humor. I had been out of touch with her since I left the church in 2000, and I left CA in 2005, but I remember her and my other "Methodist ladies" often. She lived a great life, and I am saddened by her loss. 

We met Marge and Bob in 1970 when we purchased the “Scrooge” house next to them on Candy Cane Lane.  We were just starting out and established our little family in that wonderful neighborhood.  Everybody was warm and friendly and although most of the neighbors were a little older, we fit right in.
             We were especially close to Marge and Bob as they were right next door and Marge was a party person.  Her and Bob loved traditional jazz music, referred as “Dixieland”, and we did too.  Several times a year Marge had a live band in their back yard celebrating something.  We loved the music so it seemed if we weren’t partying in their back yard,  we had a block party, or the annually decorating candy cane lane day after Thanksgiving.  Marge also loved to celebrate with her annual Christmas party where all the neighbors converged on her home for a good time.
            Marge always made sure Bob was well taken care of as during that time he was confined to a wheel chair from his MS.  She was in charge most of the time and manage all the responsibility including maintaining the 1/2 acre of land each of us lived on. We were alway swapping fruit or vegetables.                                                                 
           As we think back to those good old days we realize how important those times were and how small moments can make life so special.  At the time our daughter Debbie was just a child, and how great it was to have adults living near by that set the same life example as we set for our lives.          					Eventually we moved away to Pismo Beach, but always kept in touch with our good friend Marge and her family.  We returned for Christmas parties and to celebrate Marges 90th birthday.  Marge was special and will be missed.

Aunt Marge, Margaret Gwendolyn (Morris) Hronek, whom we called "Mog", was born in Southern Virginia, in 1922.  Her's was the first  birth year for women to have the right to vote their entire lives.

Valedictorian of her high school graduating class, she then graduated with honors from Strayer's Business College in Washington, DC.  This gorgeous redhead, met and married Uncle Bob, the love of her life, in Washington, where he was stationed in the Navy.  She then helped him through Northwestern University in Chicago.

They eventually adopted two children, Louis Van and Mary (deceased), before the natural birth of their son, Greg.  Visiting them  when they lived on Long Island was fun.  Uncle Bob would drive us through Manhattan right down Fifth Avenue.

In 1967, they moved their family to California, where they bought their home in Woodland Hills.  Aunt Marge carried her gracious Southern upbringing with her where ever she went throughout her full and loving life

My  dear, sweet Aunt Margaret was my mother's baby sister and, at 97, outlived her entire family.  We bonded over the fact that both our husbands were named Bob; both of whom passed away leaving very young widows.   She gave me good guidance for living a full life. What began as a dinner to meet the parents of the young man I was dating in 1980 ended up as the start of a 39-year friendship with his mother.  She was part friend, part mom to me; always interested in hearing details about my life & happy to share what was going on with hers. Over the years we had wonderful conversations about jobs, sisters, kids, husbands, her grandchildren, life. She was fascinating and had a great sense of humor. My husband remembers how interesting her stories were, particularly her account of the hole-in-one she got during a golf game. My kids remember her as the nice lady who taught them the joy of Reeses' Peanut Butter cereal. When they were 3 years-old, I stopped by the house for a visit. Happy to meet the kids, she soon ushered them to the playhouse she had put together for her own grandkids. There were many squeals of delight but their excitement over the playhouse paled in comparison to the special cereal snack she fed them. She knew how to make a lasting impression.
Another favorite memory has to do with a movie date we had. I was in town for the day & we made plans to see a 5 o'clock show. Anticipating an enormous concession stand popcorn for dinner, I had skipped lunch so that by the time we arrived at the theater, I was having buttered popcorn hallucinations. Twice I tried to order a large for myself and the small size she requested. Twice she strongly suggested that I might be better off with a smaller size. However, she did it in such a way that it looked like it was my decision to forego the supersized version. "Are you sure you want such a large popcorn? Do you think all that popcorn is healthy for you?" She had a point. I relented & ordered two small containers, then dropped her home after the movie and went to McDonalds!
She leaves behind a legacy of strength, tenacity, intelligence, kindness & humor. Without a doubt, her kids and grandkids will continue this inheritance. How lucky and blessed I am to have known her.

Marge was my "other mother"  from  the time she and Bob moved to Mineola.  Our 2 bedroom, 1 bath, house with unfinished basement and attic was across White Road and starting at age six  I ran away to Marge's house to escape my chores and the crowd of 5 brother and a baby sister.  She and Bob taught me to organize, to enjoy oranges with candy canes, and to imagine a life very different than I then knew.  While she waited to be a mom, Marge had a job and kept an immaculate house that welcomed me and my best friend, Diane, as if we were royal relatives.  Even in death she remains a role model as I treasure and try to practice all she taught me.  Thank you, Lou and Greg, for honoring your mother as she so richly deserves.    

Mrs. Margaret Hronek is a beautiful soul. She was fearfully and wonderfully created by GOD. I am so blessed to have given the opportunity  of taking good care of her.   She might have lost some of her memories but her kindness, sweetness  and good spirit remained innate.  I have witnessed her last few days and she battled death quietly  and peacefully.  To her two sons: Mr. Lou and Mr. Greg, thank you so much for trusting me to take good care of your mother.  Stay strong and connected with GOD. All of you will be in my heart and in my prayers from today and forever.  Love you all.

Marge had a pure heart and spirit.
She loved her God and her church so much, so all people in the church truly loved her and will all definately miss her.
But we know that we shall meet her again in heaven.

Dear Mom, 
You always stressed organization and order as "your kids" grew to adulthood so with that in mind Greg and I, along with Kristi began the arrangements today by carrying out your wishes with regard to your music selections, your flowers of choice, your favorite outfit and even your Calloway Big Bertha #3 that will rest next to you. I believe you would be proud of us. Following the mortuary visit Margie and I went to Forest Lawn to reconfirm your view of the church and the beautiful grounds you selected many years ago. We will thank you many times over for these things as time goes on and as we get closer to Sunday, Feb 9th. Most importantly our first thanks to you is for the unwavering and unquestioned love you always had for Greg, Mary and I.  God Bless you as we look forward to being even closer to your spirit this coming weekend.
