Ramon C. Morales, 88, passed away on July 24, 2014 at Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, CA due to pneumonia. He was lovingly surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born on April 4, 1926 in Managua, Nicaragua to Ramon Morales Bolaños and Amanda Cortez Marín.
Ramon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Emilia Morales Gutierrez , brothers Bobby, Frank; and sisters, Maria Lydia Montiel and Irene Waguii.
Ramon’s mother died when he was 6 years old, and his sisters, Maria Lydia and Marina were 7 and 3 years of age. His father remarried in 1935 to Delia, and they had 5 other children. Following his family to Los Angeles in 1944, Ramon received his high school diploma at Los Angeles High School. He was quickly drafted into the Army a few months later and served in the Pacific arena with the Army Corp of Engineers. After being discharged 2 years later, he attended Loyola University where he received his Civil Engineering degree in 1952.
Working for Holmes & Narver as a structural engineer, Ramon dedicated over 45 years there and was noted in ‘Who’s Who for Engineering’. This position took him to locations all over the world, including 3 years of residence in Perth, W. Australia where he brought the whole family to live.
Ramon married Emilia Gutierrez Gutierrez in 1952 in Los Angeles, CA. They were happily married for 58 years. She was the love of his life. He is survived by his brother, Joe and sisters, Marina and Jean and his children: Ramon, Jr., Emilia Jr., Mildred, Norman and Ronald; grandchildren: David, Adrian, Christine, Richard, Andre, Jenni, Andrew, Evan, Nathan, Matthew, Ryan, Nick, Taylor, Ashlee, Joshua and Alia and his great-grandchildren: Richard Jr, Camden, Aleron, Isaiah, Landon, Leah, Joshua,Jack. and Layla.
Ramon is lovingly remembered for his kindness, generosity, respect for others, and dry sense of humor. As his wife was the ‘glue’ that held the family together, he was the ‘anchor’ to everyone. He loved adventure and it was shown when he took his family on Sunday outings and a trip to Europe during the time that they were living in Australia. He will be long remembered as someone with strength, courage and determination, with a strong will to ‘get things done’ to the best of his ability, even when it had to do with his health.
A memorial/burial service will be held on Thursday, July 31 at 11am at Calvary Cemetery, 4201 Whittier Blvd, Los Angeles 90023. A ‘Celebration of Life’ luncheon will be immediately following, in which all family and friends are invited. It will be held at Luminarias Restaurant, 3500 Ramona Blvd., Monterey Park, 91754
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society, Alzheimers Association or the Salvation Army.
