ALAN M. WACHMAN., passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on June 21,2012 after a courageous yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved by family and cherished by friends and colleagues, Alan was a man of great passion and many talents who was deeply devoted to his wife and children. A scholar and teacher of international relations, he was a faculty member at the Fletcher School at Tufts University. His immediate survivors include his wife, Laura Hess; his children, Rachel Hess Wachman and Daniel Hess Wachman; his parents, Barbara and Harold Wachman of Lexington; brothers Josh Wachman of Newton and Joel Wachman of Cambridge. Alan’s family requests that donations be made to the Professor Alan M. Wachman Memorial Fund, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University,160 Packard Avenue, Medford, MA 02155. This fund will support Fletcher students engaging in international non-profit work, and reflects Alan’s fundamental belief in the importance of making the world a better place.
