Bernice Muriel Siegel, a longtime resident of Natick, passed away peacefully, at the age of 87, on December 6, 2013, in her home in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she was lovingly cared for by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patricia Siegel.
Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, on March 30, 1926, she was the only child of Mathilde and Solomon Lihner and was the wife of Robert Siegel for 58 years, before his passing in August of 2005.
Bernice worked at the family owned Siegel's Shoe Store, on Washington St. in Boston, until the birth of their first son in 1948. From that point on her family was her focus. In due time, she became a school Volunteer, Boys Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. Bernice was a past president of Temple Israel Sisterhood and a member of Temple Israel in Natick for 40 years.
In 1967, when it was decided to buy some property on Frye Island, Maine and build a summer home for their now family of six, Bernice stood side by side with both her husband and children to make this house a home. Many happy memories were built on Lake Sebago over the next 32 years.
In 1973, she returned to the work force as a bookkeeper at Acme Glass in Natick, MA.
Bernice and Bob traveled all over the U.S in their RV, named BEBO to visit new places and their children, who were by then in different parts of the country. In 1992 Bernice and Bob relocated to Florida.
Bernice was the glue for her family and taught them all how important family is, from her oldest son to her youngest grandchild. Even though she no longer walks this earth, she is very much still with each of them.
Bernice is survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Siegel Chasen of Newton, MA; her children and their spouses, Martin Siegel and Jane Day Stuart of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Malcolm and Leora Jaeger-Siegel of Albuquerque, NM, Michael and Patricia Siegel of Raleigh, NC, Barbara (Siegel) Orrell-Smith and Gordon Smith of Jefferson, MA; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Monica Siegel Weinstein and Jayson Weinstein, Jessica Siegel Ross and Christopher Ross, Katharine and Jared Heigel, Jeremy and Erin Siegel, Scott Siegel, Sasha Siegel, Alexander Siegel, Leah Orrell Motsis and Christopher Motsis, Arielle Siegel and Rebekah Orrell; 5 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Daniella, Emma, Parker and Thomas.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 11th at 10AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton MA.
Those who wish to, may join the family at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon, MA.
The family will sit Shiva at the home of Barbara and Gordon Smith until sunset on Friday, December 13th.
