Beloved aunt of Gary Golden, Stan Golden, Elaine Plotkin, Phyllis Blanc and Michael Rabinovitz. Bessie also had a loving relationship with Sylvia Weiss and Irene Davis.
Bessie was born in 1916 in Boston to Harry and Lena (Covitz) Levine and had three siblings Anne, Minnie and Charlie who have passed on.
Bessie worked at Filene's in the lingerie department for 42 years and was their second longest running employee. She was an expert fitter with local, national and international clients. People as wide ranging as Tony Bennett's daughter used to seek out Bessie's services. Marjorie Eagan from the Boston Herald wrote an article on Bessie after visiting her at Filene's in 1991. Bessie worked at Filene's until the age of 91. When Filene's closed, Bessie was offered a new job at Macy's or a buyout from Filene's. Bessie took the buyout.
Bessie loved dogs and cared for a couple over her lifetime. Bessie will be missed by all.
