Bub was beyond thrilled to be married to the love of his life, Glenda Joan Grossman (Green), for 54 years. Also missing him are his children, Matthew Grossman (Melissa), Leslie Leach (Bob), his grandchildren Evan and Jory Leach, and Olivia and Gabriel Grossman, his sister Janet Grossman, his niece and nephews Andrea Grossman, Michael Grossman (Abby Fierman), Damon Karys (Katie Wallace) and Peter Karys. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Elaine Grossman. He will also be missed by his brother- and sister-in-law, Alec and Marjorie Karys, and his great nephews, Tyler and Jack Grossman. He was the son of the late Dorothy and Max Grossman.
Bub graduated from Tufts University Engineering School in 1961. There, as he told it, he learned two things: how to understand the native tongue spoken in Boston, and how to navigate the “squares” that were called circles and the “circles” that were called squares in the traffic grid. On account of this mastery, and aided by his 1952 Pontiac the “Grey Ghost” - he was able to reel in his best catch, his wife Glenda, whom he adored and drove crazy in equal measure for 54 years. He liked to say that he lived in Westerly in “Assisted Living” - that is, Glenda assisted him in living exactly how he wanted.
Bub shared an extraordinary 40-year partnership with his brother Jay, starting and successfully operating Magnakleen Services, an industrial laundry in Meriden, CT. Over the years, they also shared three boats with their families, all called Little Chum, their father’s nickname.
Bub was happiest on his boats with a fishing pole in hand. He made friends everywhere he went - in the desert, in marinas, and on the golf course. No stranger was off-limits for a warm conversation and a potential fishing report. This led to a wonderful and diverse collection of friends from Meriden and Cheshire to Westerly, Palm Desert, and all ports in between. Generous with his wit, he was happy to roast himself on special occasions. He had strong opinions which will be shared in his memory to important entities such as TSA, the RI DOT, and Amazon. But mostly, he adored his children and grandchildren, and marveled at his good fortune.
He was proud of his Jewish faith and being a member of Congregation Sharah Zedek in Westerly.
