David learned to value education at a young age. He attended the Bronx High School of Science, New York University as an undergraduate and for Medical School; Internship at Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx. He served in the Army as a physician at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. He met his wife, Eva Skolnik-Acker, when he was in college and she was in high school. They had two sons, Michael and Joel, and raised them in New York, Baltimore, Nashville, and Newton, Massachusetts. David pursued a medical/academic path in Obstetrics, with a fulfilling career as an Obstetrician in Boston, MA, at Beth Israel Hospital, as Chairman of Obstetrics at Boston City Hospital, and as Chief of Obstetrics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, concentrating in high-risk pregnancy, and teaching obstetrics to Harvard medical students. It was in this leadership role where David demonstrated his greatest strengths, compassionately helping patients through worrisome pregnancies, reassuring them with information, availability, expertise and kindness, while educating the next generation of Obstetricians, not only to be excellent practitioners, but to be caring, concerned providers.
He enjoyed a life of medical service, teaching, travel with his wife, and of love for his family. He died on December 10, 2023, just months after his wife Eva died in April, 2023. He is survived by his son Michael, daughter-in-law Stacy, grandchildren Olivia and Charlie; son Joel, daughter-in-law Tara, grandchildren Madeline and Adam; brother Daniel, sister-in-law Susan; brother Lawrence, sister-in-law Donna; nieces and nephews: Rachel and partner Brian, and children Rosemary and Annabel; Jane; Ken and wife Ellen, and daughter Emily; Jonathan and wife Annette; Nephews Benjamin and Martin; Nephew and Nieces Jonathan and wife Masha, and children Tosha and Sonia; Julie, and husband Al, and children Robbie, Griffin and Spencer; Miri and wife Tressa, and son Jake.
