Beloved wife of Basil Gilman. Devoted mother of Stephen Gilman and his wife Cindy, Jeffrey Gilman, and Richard Gilman and his wife Salma Abdelnour. Cherished grandmother of David, Benjamin, Gabriel and Rose. Loving sister of Joseph Katz and his wife Judy. Aunt of Michelle Grieder and her husband Chris and David Katz.
Eleanor grew up in Roxbury, MA with her beloved parents Herman and Rose Katz, and her brother Joseph. She married Basil Gilman in 1960, and they raised their family first in Brockton, MA and later in Newton, MA. When she was a teenager, Eleanor’s family began spending summers in Hull, a practice she continued into adulthood with her husband and children. Long summer afternoons on Nantasket Beach surrounded by loved ones were amongst her happiest moments. Eleanor was a social person who loved to kibbitz, tell stories and play mahjong with friends. She was known for delivering hilarious, deadpan one-liners and offering her unvarnished opinion. She had a keen eye for fashion and was a stylish and adventurous dresser through the decades. An avid collector of antiques, Eleanor prided herself on decorating her home with discriminating taste and sensibility. She had a generous spirit and enjoyed selecting the perfect gift for any occasion. Her liveliness, humor and chutzpah will be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 12th at 1:00 PM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Webcast livestream at https://tinyurl.com/EGilmanService. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park.
