Gerald was born in Norwood, MA on February 7, 1927 to the late Philip and Eva (Orent) Harris.
Gerald grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and graduated from English High School. After high school he enlisted in the Navy and honorably served as a Pharmacist’s Third Mate during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy he enrolled at Northeastern University and went on to graduate from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
In 1955 Gerald Harris opened up Harris Paint and Wallpaper in Mattapan, eventually moving to its now established location on Centre Street in West Roxbury. A true family business, Gerald ran the store and Norma kept track of the bookkeeping. Their son David joined the business and eventually took over the day to day operations with his trusted co-worker Clay Ingram. Gerald had a strong work ethic and worked 6 days a week until his retirement last year at the age of 90.
Beloved husband of Norma P. (Quitt) Harris. Devoted father of David Harris, Philip Harris, and Nancy Rotman and her husband Michael. Loving brother of the late Leonard Harris, Florence Deich, and Barbara Aisner. Cherished grandfather of Alex and his wife Lori, Nicole, Charlie, Annie and the late William. Great grandfather of Ellie and Mason. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will take place at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA on Thursday, January 17th at 1:45PM. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be donated to a charity of one’s choice.
