He was born in Boston on January 1, 1946 to the late George and Rozelle (Goldfield) Sandel.
James was raised and educated in Dover and Needham, MA, graduating from Needham High School. He attended Boston University and UCLA, earning his master’s degree in social work. James was a veteran of the US Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War.
As a young man, James enjoyed playing guitar and was a talented pianist. He favored popular music and jazz. James had a career as a social worker in California, Florida and Massachusetts. He specialized in helping people with addiction and anger management issues. James enjoyed making connections and philosophizing on social media, where he was known as Zenbear.
James is survived by his daughter, Jessica Amey; his sister, Valerie Weener; his brother, Eric Sandel; his uncle Leo Sandel, many nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be private.
