Married to Marianne Cohen for 46 years. He is survived by his sister Edith Sandberg and his three children: Judy Cohen-Davis, Melissa Glaser, and Barry Cohen. He is grandfather to seven: Heidi Davis, Ian Davis, Samuel Glaser, Jacob Glaser, Daniel Glaser, Charlie Cohen, William Cohen.
Joseph was an MIT graduate and MENSA affiliate. He devoted much of his career as a chemical engineer and food technologist to the U.S. Army. Joseph was an avid collector of science fiction novels, movies, model trains, and character mugs. He loved to paint and watch movies and participate in his synagogue. He was an active community leader and volunteer in many organizations including the Jaycees, the local conservation commission, the National Society for Preservation of Covered Bridges, and his synagogue. Joseph enjoyed staying connected to his community and family and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
