Laura Beth Ungar, formerly of Stoughton and currently of Boston, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 23, 2026, at the age of 66.
Laura was the beloved daughter of the late Marvin J. and Betty Jean Ungar. She was a devoted mother to Mark A. Weisman of South Easton, and Ashley L. Boyd and her husband, Jason, of Foxboro. She was the cherished grandmother of Macklin Boyd. Laura was the loving sister of Debra Gorsky and her husband, Paul, and the late Bruce Ungar, and sister-in-law to Bruce’s wife, Donna. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Laura, affectionately known as Lauri to most, was born in West Orange, New Jersey, on August 26, 1960. Lauri was as strong as she was brave and never backed down from a challenge. At just 22 years old, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and bravely lived with the disease for more than four decades. Her favorite saying was, “I have MS, MS does not have me.” She carried those words with her every day, using them as a reminder of her strength and determination. Even through some of life’s most difficult battles, including multiple diagnoses of different types of cancer, Lauri continued to face each challenge with incredible courage and an unwavering spirit.
Lauri had a wonderful sense of humor and loved the simple things that brought her joy. She was an avid game player and could often be found doing word puzzles, playing Mah Jong, Scrabble, or Backgammon. And if the television was on, you could almost guarantee it was tuned to the Game Show Network. She loved a good game and, naturally, loved trying to win.
Before moving to The Boston Home, Lauri worked as a Concierge at NewBridge on the Charles, where she loved greeting residents, getting to know them, and sharing conversations with everyone she met. Lauri had a gift for making connections with people and never seemed to meet a stranger.
Above all, Lauri was a woman of tremendous strength, courage, and resilience. She faced life on her own terms, with determination, humor, and a spirit that could not easily be broken. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA. Burial will follow at Temple Emeth Memorial Park, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA.
Shiva will be held at the home of Debbie and Paul following the interment until 5:00 PM, then again from 7:00–9:00 PM, and at Mark's home on Friday, October 2nd, from 11:00 AM–3:00 PM.
