Lois (Fink) Baker died peacefully on November 22, 2021, in Dedham, MA at the age of 98. Lois was born in Utica, N.Y. In 1923. She is predeceased by her husband and best friend of 69 years, Sherman N. Baker. At the time she met Sherman it was on a blind date, she was a student at Cornell University, and she was going out with Benny Goodman’s brother.
Growing up, Lois had a brother Harvey who had MS, and her mother, Gertrude always made sure their home was lively and filled with people. In her married life, she carried on this tradition, having a busy social life. She loved to travel and play bridge, and she was also very philanthropic, involved with her Synagogue and Jewish charitable organizations worldwide. Her Temple invited speakers who were invited to dinner at Lois’s home. Eleanor Roosevelt, Hubert Humphrey and Martin Luther King all sat at the dinner table with the Baker family.
They had a wonderful life. Nothing gave Lois more pleasure than her children, Linda Kanner (Dr. Steven), Steven (Michele), and the late Robert (Susan) both deceased; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lois is remembered with so much love by her family, who miss her greatly. She was an incredibly elegant and beautiful woman all her life. To this compliment she would have said “That’s so unimportant dear”. She was never one to seek compliments. She had great values, she was fun to be with, and you never knew what she might say next. She was a loyal and lifelong friend, and a champion to those she loved. She will be missed by many who will always love her.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 28th at 11:45 AM at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis at acceleratedcure.org.
