Marilyn “Mikki” (Axelbaum) Cohen of Boca Raton, FL, previously of Sharon, MA, and Mashnee Village, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 96 years of age.
Mikki was the daughter of the late Fannie (Geller) Axelbaum and Joseph J. Axelbaum, and the sister of the late Leon Arnell. She is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Sherman Cohen; her children, Barry F. Cohen and his wife, Jaclin, of Milton, MA, and Shelli R. Appell and her husband, Robert, of Wrentham, MA. She was the cherished grandmother of Nicole Rosenthal, Stephanie Simons, Jessica Cohen and her husband, Zach Christman, and Daniel Cohen and his wife, Kristen; and the devoted great-grandmother of Dylan, Sienna, Beckham, Penelope, Tripp, Brooks, and Hayes.
Marilyn was born in St. Louis, MO, on February 28, 1930. Mikki and Sherman’s fairy-tale romance began upon first meeting at a social gathering in their early twenties. They went on to marry and build a beautiful life together, filled with the joy of family, world travel, making lasting friendships wherever they ventured. Mikki cherished summers at their waterfront home, “Point of View,” on Mashnee Island, Cape Cod, and winters at Boca West, where she enjoyed socializing, playing golf, and the numerous visits from her beloved family.
Mikki was an avid reader and became a familiar presence as a librarian at Sinai Residences. She was also a fitness enthusiast with a passion for competitive race walking, winning many awards, and a lover of jazz music, happily humming along to every soulful note. She enjoyed attending services and serving as a member of the Sisterhood at Temple Sinai in Sharon. She also found great meaning in her work with the Leukemia Society of America, helping to coordinate fundraising telethons following the passing of her son-in-law, Richard Greenberg.
As the beloved matriarch of the Cohen family, she found immense joy in receiving daily updates, phone calls, and photographs of her great-grandchildren, offering loving guidance and passing down her wisdom to future generations.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 10:45 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA. Please follow the signs to the graveside service, which will direct you to the rear of the administration building for the burial.
