

Son of the late Evelyn Ruth (Klashman) and Charles Hurwitz. Beloved father of Debra Hurwitz of RI and three sons, William and his wife Janet, Kenneth and his wife Katie, and Samuel and his wife Sandy. Grandfather of 8 amazing grandchildren. Brother of deceased Esther Hurwitz Sidman.
Mathew was born in Cambridge on March 24, 1936. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Rose Delgado and had 4 children. Together as a young couple, they owned and operated Mat’s Good Gulf station in Brighton while Mat studied mechanical engineering at MIT in Cambridge. Upon graduation, he worked as a mechanical engineer at Dynatech in an R&D role before starting his own innovation business, Inventure Development Corporation. During this time, he “invented “and patented numerous innovative products including the auto-sphygmomanometer, the first automatic blood pressure machine which was showcased at the Museum of Science in Boston.
Mat had a love for speed enjoying race cars, motorcycles and hot rods. This early passion led him to be a founding member of the Ty-Rod’s club still an active club Mass today. He had the opportunity to live in Florida and Hawaii where he loved to ride his Z1 motorcycle and drive his 1932 Ford. He also loved animals and enjoyed writing as a contributor for some local newspapers. In his later years, Mat was able to live independently with support from godsend and caregiver Nacia Henderson and her daughter Ivette.
There will be a small private service for family members at Sharon Memorial Park on Monday, April 1, 2024.
