Nathlie Anne Badian (nee Wimsett) was born in Paihuatua, New Zealand on 24 December 1927. During her youth, she moved around in New Zealand with her parents Herbert and Belle Wimsett, and her two brothers Eoin and Rodney. She received a BA in Classics from the University of New Zealand, Christchurch, and an MA in Ancient Greek from the University of New Zealand, Wellington. She was an accomplished violin player, and paid for her passage on a ship to England by playing the violin. She married Ernst Badian in 1950, and they lived in Italy and England during their early married years. She and Ernst had two children, Hugh (1953) and Rosemary (1958). In 1969 the family moved to Buffalo, NY, where Nathlie received an MA in Education from State University of New York, Buffalo in 1971. The family then moved to Belmont, MA, and Nathlie continued her education, receiving a PhD in Education from Boston University in 1974. She worked in the education system in the town of Holbrook, MA from 1974 to 1993, during which time she helped many families with the educational needs of their children. Ernst Badian passed away suddenly in February 2011, so in 2012 she moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham, where she resided until her death. During her years at Linden Ponds she made many friends, enjoyed her passion for gardening, and started painting watercolors. She was a prolific and accomplished artist, who held art shows and sold many of her paintings. She was a caring and compassionate woman, who donated all the proceeds from her art sales to help people at Linden Ponds. She will be remembered by her friends not just for her loving nature, but for her outstanding memory for details – she remembered everyone’s name, their birthday, when they moved to Linden Ponds…. Her friends joked that she remembered more about them than they knew about themselves. She is survived by her two children, Hugh (wife Esther) Badian and Rosemary (husband Chuck Vallance), her seven loving grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
