Norman Azer

Norman Azer, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, proud veteran, loyal friend, and cherished member of his community, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, service, kindness, and connection. Norman shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Sharlene (Goldstein) Azer, whom he married on June 9th, 1968.

Norman was the beloved son of Miriam (Wolk) Azer and Isadore Azer. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving extended family of grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. A proud graduate of Boston English High School, Norman went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. Following his military service, he met Sharlene, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, mutual respect, deep affection, and unwavering devotion.

A dedicated employee and natural entrepreneur, Norman spent many years at the Boston Globe while also owning and operating fruit and concession stands at Building 19 in Hingham. Together, Norman and Sharlene raised their two sons, David and Jeffrey, in Randolph, Massachusetts. Norman lived by a simple creed: to give and receive respect from the people whose lives he touched.

Norman was in softball and candlepin bowling leagues for years, and loved competing and being with the guys. He enjoyed having breakfast at the deli with his friends, and his kind, easygoing nature led to many deep and lasting friendships.

In their later “empty nest” years, Norman and Sharlene enjoyed many wonderful years at Twin Brooks in Easton, Massachusetts, where they built lifelong friendships. Norman was also a member of Temple Chayai Shalom in Easton and a supporter of the Chabad Jewish Community Center in Mansfield, reflecting the importance of faith, community, and connection throughout his life. He also dedicated his time to lifting up others, serving as a mentor and Big Brother through Jewish Big Brothers and as a longtime, devoted volunteer at the Brockton VA Medical Center. He truly loved giving back and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. Above all, Norman treasured the time spent with his family, extended relatives, and friends.

Norman was reunited in death with his beloved parents, Miriam (Wolk) Azer and Isadore Azer; his beloved mother-in-law, Dorothy Goldstein; his dear brother, Peter Azer; and Peter's wife, Hinda (Beberman) Azer. Norman’s legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Sharlene; his loving sons, David and his wife Annie, and Jeffrey and his wife Tracey; and his dear sister and brother-in-law, Sandra (Azer) Walper and her husband, Edward Walper. He was the adored grandfather of Justin, Tyler, Avery, Olivia, Colin, and Fiona, and leaves behind many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Norman will be lovingly remembered for the joy he brought to his family, the loyalty he showed his friends, and the quiet but meaningful difference he made in so many lives.

A Funeral Service for Norman will take place at 10:00 AM on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, CANTON. Interment will immediately follow at King Solomon Memorial Park, 2667 Centre Street, West Roxbury.

Following services, relatives and friends are invited to join the family at Hilton Boston-Dedham, 25 Allied Drive, Dedham.
