Norman Winston, 83, a sharp-dressed gentleman with a generous heart, charming personality, witty sense of humor, and a passion for family and golf, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on October 9, 2025.
Born on July 17th, 1942, to Leslie and Rose Winston, Norm grew up on Morton Street in Dorchester, where lifelong friendships were formed over stickball games, radio broadcasts of the Sox, trips to Nantasket Beach, and at the local hangouts along Blue Hill Avenue. Those friendships endured through eight decades — a testament to Norm’s loyalty and his unmatched ability to stay connected. He made sure everyone felt like family, and for Norm, friends were family.
Norm was a devoted son, a loving brother, and the kind of father and grandfather others strive to be. He was the proud father of Brian Winston and father-in-law to Melissa Klein — roles he cherished deeply. Norm and Brian were as close as a son and father could be. But his favorite title was “Papa,” bestowed upon him by his four beloved grandchildren: Jack, Sam, Zack, and Becca. Papa never missed a concert, game, play, or milestone, even travelling out of state for baseball and basketball tournaments. He was their biggest fan, always in the front row, beaming with pride and offering encouragement, wisdom, or a poorly timed unwanted “Normism” of feedback— sometimes all at once, but always out of love and pride.
Norm was the oldest of four children. Predeceased by his younger sister Carol Flink, Norman is survived by his brothers Robert Winston and Eric Winston, and by a wide circle of family and friends who were lucky to know his warmth, humor, kindness, and boundless generosity.
Norm started working as a teenager, learning the printing trade to help support his family. He never missed a day of work — not one. That work ethic carried him through a successful six decade career in promotional sales, where he wasn’t just known for his professionalism, but for his personal touch. Clients like Titleist and New Balance became friends. Friends became family.
Outside of work and besides family, Norm loved being with his golf buddies. He was a member at Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord for over 49 years and was part of a close-knit crew, where birdies, bogies, praise, jokes, and friendly insults were equally celebrated. During his time at Nashawtuc, Norm served on committees and boards, volunteered, played golf, tennis, cards in the 19th Hole, and participated in regular social activities–he experienced and loved it all. A loyal Boston sports fan, Norm rarely missed a Red Sox game, a Celtics playoff run, a Pats game, or a big Bruins win. He knew the stats and the stories behind every team, and wasn't afraid to yell at the tv to show his approval or dissatisfaction. Norm passed down his passion for Boston teams and his love of golf to his son and onto his grandchildren, who despite now living out of state, are still devoted loyal Boston fans. Norm’s witty and at times, childish sense of humor and commentary, created hilarious memories that will keep those that knew him laughing forever. That is part of Norm’s legacy–humor, loyalty and passion, whether it be sports, golf, friends, or family.
But above all else, Norm loved time with his family. Whether it be celebrating or observing the Jewish holidays, a simple family dinner, a grandchild’s performance, or just sitting around the living room kibbitzing, Norm lit up being around the people he loved. He listened with care, gave without hesitation, and loved without condition. He was, in every sense, a class act — selfless, steady, stylish, funny, and spirited.
Norman Winston leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and integrity. His life was one of quiet strength, deep loyalty, and enduring kindness. He showed up — every day — for his work, his friends, and most of all, his family. He will be missed beyond measure and remembered with joy and love forever.
