It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard A Slater, age 85, of Sharon, Massachusetts, who passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 9, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife Susan (Rikard) Slater, his two daughters, Erica Buza and her husband, Jim; and Jessie Keenan and her husband, Bill; his four grandchildren, Grace Buza, Lauren Buza, Kaitlyn Buza and Sydney Keenan; and his brother Robert Slater. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie Slater-Kaplan.
Richard was a remarkable husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, and loyal friend whose life was defined by kindness, humility, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He was the foundation of his family, offering strength, wisdom, and unconditional support through every stage of life. As a husband, Richard's love and commitment were steadfast, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.
He was the ultimate salesman and very good at it. He was always into planes, either from the Air Force to mechanics to inspector and pilot.
As a father, he was exceptional. He led by example, teaching the values of honesty, hard work, compassion, and respect. His guidance, encouragement, and gentle spirit shaped the lives of his children and all who looked to him for advice. Richard had a rare gift. To many, Richard was more than a friend—he was a father figure, mentor, and trusted confidant. His generous heart, quiet strength, and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
While his family mourns the loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, they also celebrate a life well lived and a legacy of love that will endure for generations. Richard will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Temple Sinai, 25 Canton Street, Sharon, MA, followed by a burial at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA. All are welcome to a memorial luncheon back at Temple Sinai following burial until 2:00 PM.
