Selma Masofsky passed away in her apartment at Linden Ponds in Hingham on Friday, August 14, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Selma was 96 years old. Born in Boston to Paul and Lillian Finkelstein, she grew up in Newton, graduated from Newton High School, and became a medical secretary at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
In 1950, at the age of 21, she married the love of her life, Edward Masofsky with whom she shared a 58 year love affair. Ed and Selma lived most of those years in Canton where he was elected President of Temple Beth Abraham and she became President of the local Chapter of Hadassah. Later they moved to Copperwood in Stoughton.
After Ed died in 2008, Selma moved to Linden Ponds Senior Living in Hingham where she began in independent living, moved to assisted living, and then to nursing care until her death. Wherever she lived, Selma was loved by her nurses, other staff, and other residents. She volunteered her time to help others who were in need. Special thanks to all the caregivers at Linden Ponds, including Old Colony Hospice.
Selma leaves her sister Barbara Pofcher; her beloved daughters: Susan Simon (Jerrold) and Ann Paskind (Alan). Her youngest daughter Myra Werman (Andrew) pre-deceased her. Selma was happiest when she received good news about the children and loved to look at new photos and videos.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. After the burial, there will be a reception/luncheon in the dining hall at Elmstead of Easton.
