Steven Noah Farber entered into rest on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the age of 76 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease, in his apartment at Orchard Cove Senior Living, in Canton, MA and was laid to rest in Sharon Memorial Park on Tuesday, April 11 in a small, private Jewish ceremony.
Steven was born to Hy and Florence Farber in New York City on June 6, 1946, and was raised by them with strong support from his beloved uncles David and Elmer Ferber. He married his high school sweetheart Susan, with whom he had three beloved children; went to Brooklyn College, joined the Coast Guard during the draft, attended Harvard Law School, where he was an Editor of the Harvard Law review, and - after a brief stint in Atlanta - rose through the ranks of the world of corporate law to become a specialist in tax and contract law and managing partner at Boston firms Hale and Dorr and Palmer and Dodge before taking early retirement due to the onset of Parkinson's.
Steven was especially proud to be connected with so many, in so many different ways. He maintained friendships from his childhood, his high school and college years, and law school, and through the many charities, missions, social service organizations, schools, and law firms to which he devoted his time. He was a founding member of other, smaller communities, including his beloved men's group and book group, and had deep roots in the Cajun dance, jazz, blues, and folk and roots music and festival communities as well. He traveled well and broadly across the globe and to every one of the US states, and honored many by sharing those travel experiences with them. And no matter how busy he was, he always made time for family and friends, with what to some seemed like an endless reservoir of time, capacity, and love.
He is survived by his son Joshua, his wife Darcie, and his grandchildren Willow and Cassia; his son Jesse and his wife Jasmine, his son Max, and hundreds of beloved friends and family.
He wished for all who loved him to gather together to pay tribute to his life and influence through their stories and shared company.
A Celebration of the Life of Steven Farber will be held May 7, 2023 at 1-4pm.
