Beloved wife of Richard D. Sandberg. Devoted mother of David Sandberg and his wife Viorica, Rachel MacMaster, and Daniel Sandberg and his wife Melissa. Loving sister of Jane Coppola and her husband Peter. Cherished grandmother of Chelsea, Emily, Nicholas, and Steven. Dear aunt of Peter, Steven, and the late Andrew. She is also survived by extended family and many caring friends.
Susanne was born in Boston to Harold and Helen Hirsh in the fall of 1938. Growing up in Brookline, she was the first in her family to attend college, studying at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and graduating with cum laude honors. There, at the theater-in-the-round, she met the love of her life: Richard. Together, they raised their family in Lexington.
With a passion for healing, Susanne was a talented and respected occupational therapist, Reiki master, and yoga instructor. She had an insatiable inquisitiveness and was a prolific reader. Susanne nourished her interests during her extensive travels, which brought her to learn from master painters and shine at yoga retreats across the globe. She explored her passion for the ocean and the outdoors by staying active throughout her life, while her kindness, fearlessness, and artistry attracted a huge circle of friends. Susanne was of small stature and large personality; her curiosity, ingenuity, and love was a gift to her family and those around her.
