Born in the winter of 1951 to Herminie and Harold Irving, Valerie grew up in Mattapan and attended Hyde Park High School. After attending Chamberlin College, her interest in psychology led her to many years of employment at Boston State Hospital. Valerie’s true passion and talent shined as she became a well-known astrologer to the stars. She did astrological parties for guests of the Vanderbilt family during their summer racetrack events. She read charts from Los Angeles to New York and was featured in radio, television, and magazines - including American Astrologer. She spent many decades working at Regina Russell's Tea Room in Quincy, MA. Her vivacious personality drew many to her.
Valerie cherished many dear friends, including sister-in-law Patrice Comstock and Patty Annand, who lovingly cared for her in the last several years. Maureen Parziale and her husband Jim were best friends with Valerie for almost fifty years. She shared a special bond with two life-long loves: her soulmates Tony Stella and the late Gerard Spring. She was devoted to her friends, including Bettye Kennedy, Melanie Cameron, and Dianne Ratoff; loved to travel internationally; and had a special place in her heart for cats.
Valerie is predeceased by parents Harold and Herminie (Phillips) Irving and brother Dr. Steven Irving. She is survived by sister-in-law Ellen Katz Irving, nephew Jeffrey Irving and his wife Kat Lamp, as well as cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 29 at 1:00 PM at Moses Mendelsohn Cemetery at Lindwood Memorial Park, 490 North Street, Randolph. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be donated to Hilltop Humane Society at www.hilltophumane.org or to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org
