Wayne M. Cowan, known lovingly as “WayneO,” “Daddio,” and for some, “The Pope,” passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in a quiet bedside moment, handheld tenderly by his daughter.
Born on February 23, 1961, in Lynn, MA, he was the eldest child of Byron and Suzanne (Weisenberg) Cowan.
Wayne’s life was a tapestry of discipline, humor, and deep reflection. For 18 years, he served with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), retiring as a supervisor, admired for his precise leadership and practical wisdom.
A lifelong martial artist, mentored by Sensei Conrad, he earned his 2nd-degree black belt, training for over 35 years. His discipline was a steady current, guiding every aspect of his life: ever measured, alert, and intentional.
He was a natural teacher, imparting wisdom through phrases like “people, places, and things,” “head on a swivel,” and “always bring a second pen,” reminding us to stay prepared and present.
Wayne was known for his humor and unmistakable presence, from his signature sunglasses to his strong personality and quiet intensity. He had a passion for building, mathematics, construction, and antiques, always seeking order in all he touched.
He is survived by his daughter, Courtney, and her husband, Axel, who cared for him with deep love during his final days. He also leaves behind his former wife, Terry, with whom he shared the journey of raising their daughter; his sister, Maureen, and her husband, Alan, and their children, Sammy and Jake of Andover, MA; and his brother, Robert, his wife, Judy, and their children, Lucas and Jessica, of Marblehead, MA.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA, followed by burial at Lindwood Memorial Park, 490 North Street, Randolph, MA.
