After attending Akron public schools, he went on to become a proud graduate of The University of Akron where he received a degree in Engineering. After college he got a job working for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he retired from on February 25, 1987 after 33 years of services. He was a dedicated former member of Grace United Church of Christ and member of Greentown United Methodist Church. With his love of music, he enjoyed many years in the church choir and as director and ringer of the bell choir. Bruce also enjoyed singing with the “Patriots” in their many programs. When he wasn’t singing he volunteered as an AARP tax aid for over 20 years.
He was preceeded in death by his brother, Thomas H. Kent, Sr. and sister, Barbara J. Kent. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Kent; his children, Richard (Cynthia) Kent, Linda and Kevin (Katie) Kent; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ila Pendergast. He will forever be in the hearts of his three grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle and Robert Kent; step-grandchildren, Nicole (Caleb) Gross, Zach, Cody Cole and Kaylee Conaway; step-great grandchildren, Kyle, Keagyn, Kaylyn Gross; many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Thursday from 11:00am-1:00pm, two hours before services at the funeral home.
