Charles John Texter
June 4, 1931 – May 11, 2018
Charles (“Chuck”) John Texter died on May 11th, 2018 in North Canton, Ohio, Age 86
Chuck was born in Hartville, Ohio on 6/4/1931, and graduated from Waynesburg High School. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served in the Korean War as a Gunner on a B26, where he flew 55 combat interdiction missions. Chuck married beautiful Shirley White in 1954, married for 49 years, and had two sons, Scott and Shawn. Chuck worked at the Schneider Lumber in Canton from 1949 thru retirement in 1996, where he was the Supervisor of the Wood Manufacturing Shop. He designed and built hundreds of artistically innovative custom wood structures that are easily visible when driving around the Canton area, including large church steeples, massive window frames, bank and other office building counters, and even special hand railings for Aultman hospital. He was a member Faith United Methodist Church, North Canton. He lived in the same house he built himself in North Canton in 1958 until his death.
In addition to being a loving father and husband, Chuck was a fun and caring person. For example, after retirement, during his morning walk, he would carry biscuits to feed the neighborhood dogs, who would then always be waiting for him. He even used a hand-made slingshot to shoot biscuits to those dogs that that were stuck behind a fence.
He is survived by son Scott, and his sister Sally Motter who cared for him in his final days and was in many ways, more than his sister, his best friend. He was proceeded by son Shawn (2015) and wife Shirley(2003), both for whom he was their long time caregiver.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home with Military Honors preceding the service.
