

Craig was born on February 22, 1958, to C. Wayne and Betty Sampsel in Massillon, Ohio. He was a proud, lifelong Massillon Tiger and Ohio State Buckeye. A man of many talents, he was a skilled cook, golfer, and fisherman. He enjoyed rooting for his Cleveland sports teams and recounting memories from Stadium Dormitory at the Ohio State University. His favorite activity later in life was spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be sorely missed by his wife of 31 years and the love of his life, Laura Sampsel; children: Haley (Jordan) Szymanski, Caitlin (Donald) Kotnik, and Andrew Sampsel; mother, Betty Sampsel; siblings: Mike (Diane) Sampsel, Bruce (Brenda) Sampsel, Carol (Dave) Spahlinger, and Chris (Scott) Turskey; grandchildren: Josephine, Caroline, Parker, Bishop, and Anna; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Craig is preceded in death by his father, C. Wayne Sampsel, sister, Lucia Sampsel, mother-in-law, Cheryl Messerly, and brother-in-law, Stephen Lloyd.
Calling hours will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm. There will be no formal funeral services at this time. In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial contributions to be sent to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
