Darlene Duffer, born January 23, 1937, in Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away in North Canton, Ohio, on April 15, 2026, at 89 years old, after years of struggle with dementia. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was the daughter of Lucy Pearl Briggs and Pearlie Briggs, and she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Gilbert Lee Duffer Sr., and their firstborn son, Gilbert Lee Duffer Jr.
Darlene spent more than 40 years working for the North Canton Medical Foundation, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. She was known for her warmth, her kindness, and her ability to make everyone feel at home. Alongside her husband Gilbert, she was the kind of neighbor and friend who was always ready to lend a hand, offer a smile, or simply be there when needed.
A natural nurturer, Darlene showed her love through caring for others, especially her family. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where grandchildren gathered for meals, conversation, and laughter. Whether it was pancakes, milk gravy, or just a cookie, no one ever left hungry — and often left with a little extra tucked into their pocket. Her home was always open, welcoming, and filled with comfort.
Even as her memory faded in later years, her love for family never did. She found joy in visits, phone calls, and simply being surrounded by those she loved. Her gentle spirit, humor, and unwavering devotion to her family remained constant.
Darlene is survived by her daughters, Sandra Shrigley and Sheri Pope; her five grandchildren, Sarah Corsale (Greg), Jerry Shrigley III (Leslie), Emily Mouser (Michael), Leah Pope, and Daniel Pope; and eight great-grandchildren: Landen, Owen, Alyssa, Lincoln, Piper, Gregory, Jace, and Caleb.
She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her loving heart, and the simple but powerful ways she cared for those around her. Her memory will live on in shared meals, warm kitchens, and the quiet acts of kindness that defined her life.
Visitation will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Road NW, Canton on April 22, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm.
