David George Elsass, 79, died November 1, 2026. Born November 8, 1946 in Canton to the late George and Allahda (Shopbell) Elsass. David was a resident of Hartville, Ohio. He will be remembered as a beloved and cherished husband, father, and grandfather whose steady faith, honest heart, and thoughtful presence shaped the lives of those who knew him.
David graduated from Ohio State University and later earned a Master’s Degree from another university. A hard-working and wise man with a gift for both clarity and kindness, he brought dedication and integrity to each season of life, meeting responsibilities with quiet courage and offering encouragement that inspired others.
David loved IT and worked in the IT department of Verizon Wireless in Colorado Springs before retiring in May 2017. His loyalty and care for others were evident not only in his work, but also in the way he carried himself—reliable, compassionate, and unfailingly considerate, with a gentle humor that could lighten a moment without ever diminishing it.
When he was younger, David loved to hike in the mountains, drawn to the beauty and challenge of the outdoors. He also enjoyed working at the church helping with the quilts, giving his time in a spirit of service and devotion. A faithful Ohio State football fan, he carried that same steadfast enthusiasm into the simple joys that made life rich.
David’s life was anchored in what mattered most to him. “What I love most is Jesus and my wife,” he once said, and in that sentence those closest to him recognize the sincerity of his devotion. His final words echo the same enduring truth: “Jesus is everything.” He really loved his family, and that love was constant—expressed through loyalty, compassion, and the steady strength of a man who showed up, listened well, and cared deeply.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, John Elsass; and his sister, Capt. Phyllis Elsass, US Navy Retired. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Geri Elsass; sons, Benjamin Elsass, and Joshua (Amy Hastie) Elsass; and granddaughters, Adalynn, Ember, Annabelle, McKenzie, Madison, and Makayla.
