Dave passed away after a brief illness at his home in Spencer, Ohio, on September 6. He was born in Canton on November 2, 1948, to Louis and Wanda (Brooks) Sebald. A graduate of Timken High School and Stark State College, he was drafted into the Army, where he served in Vietnam as a helicopter turbine engine specialist. 1st Sgt. Sebald retired with nearly 40 years of service in the 137th Aviation Regiment of the Ohio Army National Guard, including more than 4 years of active duty deployments.
He was the former owner/operator of Hidden Arms and enjoyed competitive shooting in the national matches at Camp Perry. He looked forward to his annual prairie dog hunting trip. He also enjoyed annual vacation trips with his children and grandchildren. This year, he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary trip with all 10 family members in a beachfront house. His greatest wish was that his grandchildren would remember him.
He is survived by wife Valerie McCreary Sebald, daughter Meredith (Greg) Croft and Alyson and Evan, and son Damien (Veronica) Sebald and Victoria and Isaac. He is also survived by his siblings Doug, Pat, Pam, and Penny; his parents and brother Dennis preceded him in death.
As a double lung transplant recipient, he knew every day was a gift and appreciated the 9+ years that he was able to “borrow.” Because of that gift of life, donations are suggested to Lifebanc, 4775 Richmond Road, Cleveland, OH 44128-5919; Phone: 216.752.LIFE (5433).
Visitation will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Road NW, Canton, Friday, September 10, from 3-5pm, with special service at 5pm. He will be interred at Forest Hill Cemetery, 4414 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, on Saturday, September 11, at 10am, with committal service and military guard.
